I was going to title this “Winter Plans” but, uh, it’s mid-February, and I feel like “plans” isn’t quite accurate, since I likely won’t get to every project.

I’m hoping these garments will fill some holes in my everyday wardrobe. I made up a couple nice dresses in the last few months, but my everyday wear is still pretty sparse. I’ll mostly be focusing on tops and blouses, but of course, I can’t resist sewing up at least one dress.

Blouses

I haven’t been interested in blouses before. Since high school, I’ve only either worn dresses or, like, leggings and tees. I’m feeling pretty burnt out on tees and leggings, but dresses aren’t always practical with a toddler. I’m looking to blouses paired with jeans or skirts for a smart, easy everyday look.

In the Black Friday sales, I picked up, or rather downloaded, the Sew Over It Pussy Bow blouse and the Tilly & the Buttons Orla blouse.

I’ve been hoarding a dotty viscose for over a year and I think it’s perfect for the Orla. I think I’m going to do the snowball collar in a contrast solid black fabric. If I do, I also might change up the sleeve a little to add black cuffs.

I think I have just enough of the navy swiss dot leftover from my McCall’s 7381 to make the Sew Over It Pussy Bow. I’m not sure what the fabric’s composition is. It’s not as structured as cotton and it has a hair of stretch in it. I think it’s light and drapey enough, and the texture will give some depth to an otherwise simple make.

Casual Tops

In the chilly weather, I’m finding myself gravitating toward jeans and wishing I had warm tops to go with them. I also have a couple pieces that would would be great for winter, but are too chilly on their own. To solve this I’ve chosen the Megan Nielsen Rowan as an under layer and the Tilly & the Buttons Coco for a chic, yet cozy top.

I bought some plain black and navy jersey from Stoff & Stil. I know that’s a bit boring, but I need a boring  solid under layer. I’m hoping to first make up the mock neck top in navy and then the bodysuit in black.

I love the 60’s vibe of theTilly & the Buttons Coco funnel neck. It’s so chic, while still being super cozy. I’m gonna see if I have a remnant big enough in my stash. Taking some inspiration from Tilly’s Nora pattern, I might crop it if I’m running short on fabric.

Pants

The Sew Over It Mia Jeans were in my last plans post and I didn’t get around to making them. I’m not fooling myself this time either. My goal is simply to cut and baste them by the end of March. I have a dark wash stretch denim pre-washed and ready to go. I picked it up at the market for €4/meter and I’m thinking that it’s probably not the best quality. That’s fine for my first go at making jeans.

Dresses

After making my curtain version of Tilly & the Buttons Francoise, I’m really excited to try it again. I picked up a gorgeous denim-look stretch cotton from the Lapjesmarkt in September. I think it’ll pair so nicely with the tops I’m making up and come summer, it’ll look great on it’s own.

I’ll also be keeping up with my year-long wrap dress project, but I’ll do a separate post for that, so stay tuned!
